Top Chef Frotcast Post-Show S1E7, RESTAURANT WARS, with Anna Hossnieh

Our Top Chef rewatch pod continues with the very first Restaurant War, pitting "Spanish" against "American Workshop."

[This is the podcast section of The #Content Report. It’s different than the regular section. You put it in your ears.]

Bravo

This week we’re going all the way back to April 19th, 2006 to recap Top Chef’s very first Restaurant War. This was an epic battle in which one team wanted to showcase American Classics (one of which included tuna tartare on a pita bread?) in order to take down the other team, who had invoked that brand new, red hot restaurant concept that had only just reached American shores in 2006, “Spanish.”

That’s right, Spanish food was so novel in 2006 that one contestant (a professional chef, mind you, and Spanish speaker to boot) proposed such dishes as papaya, arepas, and putting cream in a white gazpacho. THE HORROR!!!

Before that, the chefs battled it out in the key of “sandwiches” to see who could “win” a spot on the menu in Tom Colicchio’s new restaurant, Wichcraft. They may not get money for winning this challenge, or immunity, but in the end, isn’t donating your intellectual property to Tom Colicchio’s restaurant empire its own reward? Me and Joey both went to Wichcraft a few times. It was fine.

Our guest this week is the multi-talented, multi-faceted, multi-lingual (maybe?) IHeart super producer Anna Hossnieh (a fan favorite Frotcast All-Star — FFFAS). Besides the show, we weigh in on our own desert island sandwiches, which pussy posse members we would choose as our partners in restaurant wars, and whether our parents were right to believe that root beer was healthier than Coca-Cola.

We hope you enjoy it, and as always, no refunds. (It’s free). Don’t forget to visit our sponsor at Blackwood Distilling Co.com.
