I really enjoyed the Kamala Khan show and I think the big problem with this movie is that the only people that would’ve been excited about it would be me and the dozen or so people that watched that show.

My wife is really the canary in the coal mine for this stuff. I’m lukewarm on most Marvel things but she LOVES these movies. And she just does not care about anything they are putting out right now.

Ditto. Marvel was really testing the turbonerd waters here by not being able to have its lead actors (all pretty charming) promote the movie with a Jimmy and 2 of its 3 leads originating solely in the tv shows with not even lip service in other films

Was a big fan of the MCU content all the way through Endgame and several of the TV series. Haven't really seen much of anything (even with a Disney+ subscription) since then. Too many timelines, variants, dimensions, whatever....just bored the crap outta me. At this point, I need one-off films from them with characters and actors I care about. I don't see that happening.

Yup. I've kept up with post-Endgame MCU, and I'm one of six people who liked Quantumania. More and more, it's like the later seasons of a TV show that went on too long. We've wrapped up all the threads I was interested in, and now it's too complicated, with too many new people I don't care about, and little sense of where it's all going. They just put out the worst thing the franchise has ever produced (Secret Invasion), and I was excited for Kang because of the guy playing him, but... alas.

Many of the reviews I read gave Marvels a pretty good rating. I watched the trailer and just couldn't care much less. Growing up a comic book nerd, I couldn't wait until the tech was there to do cool superhero movies. Be careful what you wish for, I guess. The plus is that I don't really feel like I need to keep up with these movies anymore, which is nice.

Is it really a referendum on wokeness, or is it just moviegoers not showing up for films about women? I feel like that's been a thing for a long time (with Barbie being the only recent exception).

I don't follow the MCU at all but I've seen a bunch of posts about this movie flopping and no one seems to be mentioning the obvious thing, that it's an action movie poster that only has women on it.

Speaking of other studios trying to copy the model, remember when Universal(I think) tried to make a monster movie-verse starting with the mummy? I'm a Cruise apologist and found it unwatchable. Not like fun bad, just bad bad. Also, why'd the have to make the mummy so damn hot? It was terribly confusing for my penis.

I've heard that this movie is doing well on streaming, which is very strange because it was awful.

It was on one of the cable channels recently and watched it. Really, really generic. Felt like the outline of a movie that was never finished. Something about a knife? Also terribly miscast. Oh and they used the "pupils split into two" thing which I guess was trendy for a hot minute.
