Besides the misleading edit, I think part of the problem was wish fulfillment- Dan was more relatable than Danny. I can identify with his physical struggles and I was excited that the hometown guy looked like he would pull off the upset. I still love the show, but I think there needs to be a bit of a rethink in the offseason. In the meantime, I’d take a lot more Dish with Kish!!
The editing definitely over corrected, but I was smugly happy to have called it while watching that Dan had played it safe with his second dish and that the tuna texture thing was a bigger deal (doing the wrong thing on purpose is worse than taking a big swing and missing) than the edit suggested.
But if you’re one of the weirdos still(!) tweeting at Tom about this, you’ve become the equivalent of a bitter sports fan whining about reffing after the trophy ceremony.
I had it between Dan and Danny but would have been a little surprised if Dan had won. His stuff that worked felt a little safer and Danny did a masterful job of selling his concept in the dessert round the one round everyone did well in. It reminded me a little of Ilan vs Marcel (unfair to both Ds I know) with the tie going to the more out there one this time.
As someone who was not a big Danny fan but felt his win was inevitable, I feel really bad for him. This should be the high point of his career, maybe even his life, and now it's kind of been tainted, like an aguachile made with spoiled fish. I hope Danny is staying off social media... and that the TC editors will do better next year.
What's surprising about this is you'd think Tom (and maybe Gail?) as executive producer would have some sort of say over the final cut of the finale. But maybe he's just too busy to GAF about it.
Excited to see Top Chef is coming to my hometown next. Funny that I'd just decided to stop watching and only read Vince's recaps. I'll likely watch this season - and will do a bit of digging around to see if there's tips on getting to be in the crowds where lots of people are being fed.
Love the Emeril tidbit.
Me too. To bastardize a Homer quote, "I like my homosexuals flaming and my Emerils hella wine drunk!".
What's up with this replacing "-ation" with "-aish" nonsense?! It's a bastarizaish of the English language!
Goddamnit, now you got me doing it too!
For a guy who spent the season making fun of dumb young people slang in his write-ups...
I hate to tell you but this is middle aged people slang now
...SLANG THESE NUTS
Well it's still fucking dumb!

This season started with shenanigans with the David Mysterium, and ended as poorly....
Lol love that last tidbit at the end. Thanks for an enjoyable read!
"Danny does not deserve that; no reality TV show contestants deserve abuse."
Really, Andy? None of them? Not a single one?
