This sounds very similar to your review of Suicide Squad, which you felt was amazing but then just kept going. It’s probably telling for you that the part you are saying is “40 minutes” is actually probably only like 10-15 minutes.
I didn’t have this issue with the ending but I’m really happy to see my favorite runtime grumpus is back to writing great reviews! Agree that the organic space station was the most inspired part.
“ but there were definitely a few times I wondered whether this would’ve been too intense for him”
The duality of child is that as a kid i loved toys of the “xenomorphs” from the Alien movies, but even watching the edited Sci-Fi channel versions scared me to death
It definitely depends on the kid. As an only child I watched a ton of weird stuff that was way too advanced for me. oddly the only thing I remember giving me nightmares was Terminator 2.
My parents took me to things waaaay too young (they were also waaaay too young IMO to have had kids). I remember seeing stuff like Excalibur and the first Mad Max film while in elementary school. They also rented R rated films that we watched which I probably shouldn't have.
Children are weak these days. I remember watching RoboCop at a 5th grade birthday party... And I still have nightmares of the guy getting toxic waste spilled on him and turning into Lindsay Lohan before getting exploded by a car.
The novelty of these movies are long gone. What felt kinda tight in the beginning has expanded to what feels unmanageable. There were some really decent moments, but there was a lot of fluff that felt like it served the MCU instead of the actual story.
Yep, pretty standard for Marvel at this point. I go in expecting that, this movie actually tricked me into believing there wouldn't be that for a good chunk, to its credit.
Now that we have a comment section again, I keep wanting to say “great work, Lance”. I can’t remember the origin of that or if it’s just from some fever dream I had years ago. Regardless, great work Lance.
Chareth is correct. Now that the statue of limitations has passed/these things are no longer legal (I think?) I can say that I had signed a non-compete with a previous employer.
Yeah, that was kind of a perfect choice. I didn't expect that to slap as hard as it did. But yeah, again, I feel like the bad ones were mostly at the end, like he had a whole list he was trying to crowbar in there before the credits rolled the same way he was doing with the plot.
GotG2 was like this in the ending, too. It had the extended Ravager salute funeral where Stallone and all those guys show up. It could have been 15-20 min shorter easy after killing Kurt Russell but they kept saying goodbye to Michael Rooker
"Where Endgame had an overlong ending sequence with all the actors signing their names on the screen (a deliberate attempt to blur the lines between moviegoing and souveniring?)"
Weird observation. Since it was closest thing there was to a curtain call and bid farewell, that was tastefully done. I loved it.
In contrast much of 'art' is tacky souveniring. After all what can you say about anyone who BUYS a work of art, because they need not only to look at it - but POSSESS it (????)
I didn't think the ending here was as egregious as Suicide Squad's - everything after "it's a freakin' kaiju!!" sort of un-did what was so good about the rest of that movie - but it did feel a lot like if the insanely long Tony Stark funeral scene was upbeat.
Most of the jokes not landing w/ my 10:30p Thursday night screening seemed like the bigger whiff, I was shocked the piggies weren't hooting and hollering more.

The run time grumpus has logged on! All I can say is that I was really, really into it, and then it kept going and going and I was annoyed.

So it's good? Sort of? Dammit Mancini, tell me how to feel! I'm getting solid B+ vibes here.
First 3/4ths is an A, last fourth is an F. Whatever that averages out to, I’m bad at math.
I think that's a solid 3.0 or B

Didn’t Vince blog under the name Lance Martini during the early days of filmdrunk?

Vince out here like George Castanza - I'm a bootlegger, baby!
What was the TV version of FilmDrunk, back in the day? Were you the one doing the Justified recaps or was that someone else?
That’s probably it. I’ve been a reader/listener since like episode six of the Frotcast so I probably heard it along the way.
I thought it had something to do with resemblance to Luke Walton.
But now I've just confused myself further.
This one also had a few misses on the needle drops. Some felt out of place or forced.
God bless him for letting me hear Spacehog on an IMAX sound system though. (That song was in the trailer so I feel okay saying it).

I really dug the movie, except for when people were clapping like seals whenever something uplifting happened. But this review is all correct.

Chukwudi Iwuji was having a ball out there.
Truly fantastic stuff from him.
Everything post Endgame has been trash.
Starting to agree with this.
