If/when the NFL gets their way from the Players Association and there are 18 games a season, there's a good chance the Super Bowl will be the Sunday before Presidents Day. Then finally we'll have a three-day weekend for the big game haha.

I've been a vocal proponent of making the Monday after the superbowl a national holiday for years. In fact, I won't shut up about it. It's possibly my defining personality trait.

I actually like a lot of things about my current job (it’s my platonic ideal of medical billing) but one thing that really grinds my gears is that if I’d taken today off I would have had to take the 4th off as one of my vacation days instead of it being a holiday.

The thing is a lot of companies usually have a fixed number of holidays in their annual schedule. So adding an additional federal or state recognized day typically means one less day from another holiday. Nothing really gained.

For example my company a couple of years ago decided to add MLK day as a day off but we lost a day for holidays that sometimes would have been a four day weekend. Like this year's Fourth of July.
