I, for one, think he should have been nommed for his work in Zodiac.

Clearly, Jake G. playing a character named Elwood is a tribute to the Blues Brothers!

Against all odds I actually enjoyed it. Connor was way over the top which is the only Connor I like. I found the first fight with the bikers to be well done and Gyllenhaal's delivery of the health insurance line was so good it saved it from being cheesy. Not to mention I could watch juiced to the tits JG do calisthenics on his boat all day. (Some homo)

Vince, as your designated wrestling fan reader let me explain Ronda Rousey:

In 2018 Rousey was initially beloved as she took to pro wrestling like a duck to water.

Rousey was the biggest star in the WWE (not just biggest female star, biggest star period). But thanks to some amazing work she was usurped by Becky Lynch. Ronda didn’t take being booed by fans well and began cutting promos about how wrestling was fake (which, yeah, it’s predetermined but it was annoying). Rousey lost at Wrestlemania 35 in 2019 and took a hiatus.

Rousey would return in 2022 but it was not the same as her great initial run. She would retire and it was a bummer.

Now we like her again because her autobiography shits on Vince McMahon.

I just got back into wrestling because of all the Cody Rhodes/Rhea Ripley hype, and I had no clue what happened to Rousey since I thought I saw her at Wrestlemania last year. Funny that she went viral again this week for declaring herself as the best female fighter of all time. Glad we are no longer in the era of Women's MMA where one girl could just One Trick Pony her way into a championship.

Aw, I *like* one-trick ponies, as long as the trick usually works. The thing that bummed me out about Rousey was kind of the same thing that bummed me out about Lesnar -- got famous and hyped too quickly and then when their deficiencies got exposed, instead of trying to correct them in any way they just went "fuck this" and bounced. Which, I mean, I get it, getting punched in the face is not a super fun way to make a living for most people. But I also think if Rousey could've just learned some better footwork and boxing defense she still could've been a beast, even if she wasn't the undisputed GOAT or whatever.

This was bad. Conor was so actively bad that I couldn't even enjoy the campiness.

Even Jake was mailing it in. I think everyone involved saw how bad Conor was and just decided to get this film shoot wrapped up asap

Hold the F on just one got-danged minute!

Dalton had a first name in the original?

Was into this movie for awhile, but then I realized 40 mins in that Jake Gyllenhaal hadn't actually fought anyone yet. Then McGregor showed up and the whole thing just fell apart. No idea why they thought having the final act taking place on a boat with only like 5 people on it would be a good idea.

***SPOILER ALERT***

Also kinda funny that the Road House got totally fucked up and Dalton left without saying goodbye to anyone. It was like the end of a Reacher season, except he leaves as a failure.

I agree Vince, with a little work this could have been a classic. JG was perfect and the first half of the movie is super fun. The UFC backstory was unnecessary, the father sheriff was unnecessary and Magnuson could easily have been the heavy in this. He could have tacked on some Hollywood muscle for the role. It would have also made the movie about 90 minutes which would have been the icing in the cake.

Solid B+.

Damn. I had high hopes for this to be as silly and lovable as the first but I also didn't think Gyllenhaal would be cast well for that type of movie so I'm almost glad they didn't try it.

Either way I've always thought the better angle for a RHCU would be following Sam Elliot's character going from town to town and partying and getting stupid while cleaning shit up.
