My dad was a wee lad when "Bambi" was released, and he tells the story of going to the theater with his sister to see it. When Bambi's mother died, his sister began wailing so loudly that they had to leave. This movie traumatized generations of children! (I'm pretty sure I saw it at some point, though of course my dad gave me ample warning beforehand of what was coming.) I hope Polley makes it even bleaker than the original.
Oh for sure. And I feel like Pixar followed this blueprint for years, trying to get kids (and their parents) to bawl their eyes out in the first 10 minutes of Up or Finding Nemo.
This is egregious but I definitely still haven’t forgiven them for stealing years of prime career from Barry Jenkins for a Mufasa movie. At least that one isn’t a shot for shot remake I guess.
It'll be called "Young Bucks Chatting in an Abandoned Barn" about motherless deer. Faline and Thumper give advice on how to avoid becoming a venison or hasenpfeffer dinner.
I wish I could find that interview where Barry Jenkins strongly implied "I spent four years of my life on a movie no one watched (Beale Street) and a show no one watched (Underground Railroad), so I figured I'd give myself a break with a Lion King prequel."
Now when you search, it's all "I was so excited to work with CGI, the script was great, there's such a good story in Mufasa's origin..."
I get that in a sense, but at the same time, a lot of people eat McDonald's cheeseburgers. So like, cool, now you're making McDonald's cheeseburgers, lots of people eat those, but none of them ever compliments the chef afterwards either.
Yeah, in this case, the only people who know and care about the craft you're bringing to McDonald's cheeseburgers are the ones who would rather you be making steaks.
Havent forgotten that they mocked this in Barry, though it’s funny when it’s directors of truly overrated loaves. Looking forward to Disney have the guy who made Tar to do the new Pocahontas

Maybe it’s healthy for Wes Anderson to do “one for them” to help ruffle his tweedy knickers for whatever he’d do next
